GLOBE : An EU Tempus Project

Stakeholder Involvement

In order to improve robustness and practicality of the work, we would seek to engage industry in reviewing the projects at appropriate points in the programme of work. The project team contains a very good blend of academic and practical expertise, and therefore the network of contacts we can draw on will ensure that the work can be reviewed in terms of both technical rigour and industry applicability and usability.

The GLOBE Project has engaged industry at points in the programme of work:

a) As per proposal we have engaged industry at an early stage through the comprehensive survey on importance of multidisciplinary studies in built environment engineering and good links between academia and industry. We have selected and interviewed representatives from 20 companies in Serbia to elicit their views on the state of the current provision in Serbia, and also what they consider important in future developments.

b) As an added value to the project we have decided to interview 10 urban local authorities. We are aware that most of the research in built environment engineering is driven by either EU Directives or the individual state policies, and by including local authorities we recognise the importance of the State as a major stakeholder in this project. Note that the cost for this job has not been calculated to the project.

c) The stakeholders will be informed on the outcomes of the project during the two GLOBE conferences; one conference will be held in Belgrade (the capital) and the other one in Nis (the biggest city in the south of the country). Representatives of both academia and industry will be invited.

d) We have invited representatives of UK and Portuguese engineering professional institutions to make presentations and discuss a possible role for them in the development of an educational programme in Serbia. As a result of these discussions, the project team is considering the possibility of having the programme accreditied by an oaverseas (i.e., EU) instituion.

e) Furthermore we have presented a paper on the 36th International HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Congress held in Belgrade in December 2005 focusing on the issues of the interest to the project (see Added Value). As this congress is well known as a meeting place of building services consultants, engineers and manufacturers we have managed to successfully engage the stakeholders at the early stage of the project.
